Waiting out winter. Evergreens and shrubs are wrapped in burlap outside a condo building at Dempster Street and Elmwood Avenue. The material is used to protect the plants against winter salt, wind and rabbits, said Amy Dale of Evanston’s Green Edens landscaping company. “They almost look like gnomes.” Or perhaps the famous Easter Island statues. Dale will unwrap the burlap coverings in early spring. (Photo by Richard Cahan)
