The Evanston Fire Department has announced the promotion of Curt Koopman, an eight-year veteran of the fire department, to the position of Fire Captain. Curt’s official promotion date is Feb. 14.
Koopman is a decorated firefighter, receiving the Fire Chief’s Letter of Commendation in 2016 for exceptional service and professionalism while on an emergency call.
He is a state-certified Paramedic and has served as a shift EMS Coordinator from 2019 to 2021. Koopman also served as a training committee member for two years.
In 2010, Koopman received two Bachelor’s Degrees from Western Illinois University in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration and Fire Administration.
Before starting his career with the Evanston Fire Department, he served as a volunteer firefighter with Garden Homes Fire Protection District for 10 years. His father also served as a firefighter with Garden Homes FPD for forty years, retiring as Fire Chief in 2015.
“With this promotion, Curt Koopman is taking on a critically important leadership position in the department,” said Fire Chief Paul Polep. “This position will provide Curt the ability to have a more positive impact on the department and the community we proudly serve.”
