First Saturdays Evanston is an arts initiative that invites the community to explore and experience Evanston’s thriving art scene.
Hosted on the first Saturday of each month, Evanston Made, a nonprofit arts organization based in Evanston, collaborates with artists, arts organizations and business owners to showcase Evanston’s creative community.
Artist-run, this monthly event is entering its third year, and includes Open Studio Tours, Pop Up Exhibits, Artists Talks, Art on Exhibit and more. One highlight is the partnership between Evanston businesses and the artists, where businesses display art in windows and walls.
“Visibility is essential for visual artists and accessibility is essential for arts patrons,” said Evanston Made Executive Director Lisa Degliantoni. “Each month more locations are added to the list of events for the day and we are thrilled to see businesses join in. This month you can see Ben Blount’s prints at The Wine Goddess, Kathe Stoepel’s letterpress at Backlot Coffee, Jevoid Simmons’ art at Coco and Design, to just name a few!”
The initiative kicks off Saturday, March 5. Arts patrons are invited to “design an art-filled day” using the list of events and a Google Map. Events are hosted 9 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. throughout the day. All events are free. The schedule is listed at evanstonmade.org/first-saturday-evanston/
