Chicago artist Ryan Tova Katz’s Purple Hearts Mural from underneath the el tracks on Foster Street east of Maple Avenue. Katz has completed murals in three states and nine countries. “You can beautify a city with large-scale art,” she said. “It takes me four days to do a mural this size and it’s up for 20 years.” The mural was originally designed with red hearts, but Katz changed them to purple to honor Northwestern University.
