The City of Evanston and the Evanston Police Department are notifying Evanston community members that a portion of Howard Street will be closed to traffic throughout the morning of Wednesday, April 6, due to a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Illinois headquarters for the Lubavitch Chabad organization.

To facilitate safety, the Evanston Police Department will implement traffic control measures in the area, including:

  • Howard Street will be closed to traffic from Dodge/California Avenue to Grey/Francisco Avenue from 9 a.m. to noon. Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area and use alternate routes. The event officially begins at 10 a.m. and will continue until approximately noon.
  • Parking will be prohibited along Howard Street from Dodge/California Avenue to Grey/Francisco Avenue. Towing will begin at 8 a.m. “No Parking” signs have been posted.

Evanston Police officers will be on hand throughout the event to assist drivers. Community members are encouraged to follow the Evanston Police Department Twitter, @EvanstonPD, for updates on the day of the event.

For more information, please call/text 847-448-4311 or simply dial 311 in Evanston.
