The Evanston Police Department issued this news release about a Tuesday night shooting:
On April 19, 2022, at approximately 11:30 p.m. Evanston Police responded to the 1500 block of Sherman Avenue for a person shot. During the police response the victim walked approximately one city block from the 1500 block of Sherman to the Evanston Police Department lobby.
Officers met the victim, a 21-year-old male resident of Niles, in the lobby of the Police Department. The victim had suffered two gunshot wounds, one to the abdomen and a second to the buttock area. The victim was transported to Evanston Hospital where he remains hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
The initial investigation revealed the victim was with two known offenders. The victim and the offenders had a verbal altercation that led to the victim being shot by one of the offenders while the victim was exiting the vehicle. The offenders then fled the area in the vehicle.
This was not a random attack. The offenders are not in custody but the investigation does not indicate there is a continued threat to the general public.
