Every Sunday morning from April 24 to May 29, Canal Shores will host bird watching walks, weather permitting.
Only about half of the 82 acres at Canal Shores is occupied by the golf course, allowing for natural habitats attractive to birds, both migratory and residential. As of May 21, 2021, bird watchers have seen 187 species of birds on the property. Click here to see a list of birds seen on Canal Shores.
The property has designated two birding loops. Maps outlining them can be reached by clicking the following links: South Birding Loop Map and North Birding Loop Map.
The first walk of the season will begin at 7:30 a.m., Sunday, April 24, and will be on the north birding loop. There is free parking on Maple Avenue in Wilmette where the group will meet just west of the Canal near the 10th tee. Each person should bring their own binoculars.
Registration is required in order to keep the groups from becoming too large. To register email matthewarooney@gmail.com.
