Beacon Academy junior Julian Aske recently won the 800-meter race in the Palatine relays. He not only beat his own personal record but he was the fastest 1A racer at the relay. In his come-from-behind victory, he won his heat in 1:57.95, his fastest 800-meter race to date. Relatively new to this event, and only his third time competing in this race, he is now among the fastest in the state.
Aske recently came off a knee injury. “I just finished PT a couple of months ago. I didn’t think I could do it,” he said, “My coach believed in me.”
He began his running career at Beacon as a part of the cross-country team and he eventually picked up track his sophomore year, where he qualified for the state championship with the 11th-fastest time in 1A competition. He sprinted to fifth in the state championships in the 400-meter race. This season he is expected to be successful at the state level again.
“Julian is inspiring to work with because he does everything I ask of him. It is no surprise he is as successful as he is due to his work ethic,” said Coach Rick Wemple.
Beacon Academy is a Montessori high school in downtown Evanston, with a student population of approximately 200.
