Explore Evanston history beyond downtown with local historian Janet Messenger. Join her on a walk around the city’s south by southwest side.
The “South by Southwest” walking tour is Saturday, May 14 from 10 a.m.-noon. The cost is $10 for members and $15 for non-members. Space is limited. Reserve today.
The walk will explore the Dempster-Dodge intersection, for decades home to our largest for-profit employer; the Florence-Crain area, once the city’s Polish neighborhood and home to Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church with its golden statue of the Virgin Mary; and Crown Park, originally called Boltwood Park. It occupied a fraction of today’s park and was anchored by Boltwood Field House, serving local residents with more immediate needs than ice skating rinks.
