For the first time ever, Evanston Township High School threw a Senior Send-Off party for the graduating class. Graduating students from the pandemic-slammed Class of 2022 met on Lazier Field Thursday, which was also their last day of class, so they could celebrate in style, with a DJ, food trucks and tents set up for yearbook signing and eating.

“I feel really excited and nervous at the same time,” said Amneh, a senior pictured in the photo gallery above, during Thursday’s celebration. “A month ago, I was outside counting the days until this day comes. I went through a lot of hard days, but I made it.”

But even though Thursday was their last day in class, seniors still have another week before their formal farewell at graduation. Senior Prom is this Saturday, May 14, at Navy Pier, and commencement will take place at Northwestern University’s Welsh-Ryan Arena at 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 22.

Amneh’s friend, Khatija, also pictured above and a graduating senior, added that a lot of academic pressure comes with senior year, but today made all the hard work worth it.

“It was so nice being part of the ETHS community. It was the best four years of my life,” Amneh said. “There were some hard days, but it was the best experience.”
