The City will begin sealing and rejuvenating areas of asphalt pavement at 14 locations the week of May 23, weather permitting.
The project, which is estimated to take eight to 12 days to complete, is expected to seal approximately 32,600 square yards of pavement.
The project involves spraying a clear liquid sealant on the street which penetrates, rejuvenates and seals the asphalt surface and binder. This lengthens pavement life and seals it against water infiltration, an important step in preserving pavement infrastructure. Once the sealant is applied, a coating of limestone screenings or sand will be spread for traction while the material is absorbed.
Drivers can expect brief street closures in specific work zones as the work crews apply the sealant/rejuvenator. The street will open for traffic about one hour after all steps of the application are finished. “No Parking” restrictions, which will be posted 48 hours in advance, will be short in duration and specific to each work area.
The work in each location is anticipated to take two to four hours to complete.
