The City of Evanston has announced facility closures and service schedules for the Memorial Day holiday weekend, Saturday, May 28 through Monday, May 30.
Memorial Day Ceremony
Evanston American Legion Post 42 will host a Memorial Day community reflection and ceremony honoring America’s fallen heroes at Fountain Square, located at Sherman Avenue and Davis Street, on Monday, May 30, at 10:30 a.m. Assembly will begin at 10 a.m. The ceremony will include non-denominational reflections, singing, and remarks by elected officials and leaders of local veterans groups.
Refuse Collection
No collections will occur on Monday, May 30. Monday through Thursday trash, food and yard waste, and recycling collections will occur one day later in the week than normal. Friday condo recycling collections will occur on Friday, May 27.
Parking
Parking meters, pay boxes and downtown parking garages will be free on Memorial Day. In addition, other restricted areas that have signs that prohibit parking except on holidays will be honored. No street cleaning will occur on Monday, May 30.
Facility Closures
The Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center will be closed Sunday, May 29 and Monday, May 30.
The Morton Civic Center, Chandler-Newberger Center, Gibbs-Morrison Cultural Center, and Evanston Ecology Center will be closed Saturday, May 28 through Monday, May 30.
All Evanston Public Library locations, the Robert Crown Community Center, Noyes Cultural Arts Center and Levy Senior Center will be closed on Monday, May 30.
Beaches
All Evanston beaches will open for the season beginning Saturday, May 28. Beaches will be open on Memorial Day.
New this year, beaches will be free to Evanston residents. Beach fees still apply for non-Evanston residents.

The 311 Service Center will be closed on Memorial Day. The 311 Center will also be closed on Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29 according to its normal operating schedule. 311 is available online 24/7 at cityofevanston.org/311.
