The Evanston Police Department is collaborating with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other area police departments after the Huntington Bank branch in the Howard Street Jewel-Osco just south of the Evanston border was robbed Wednesday evening.

The offender, described in the press release as a white man with blonde hair between 35-50 years old, is believed by the FBI to have committed a string of similar robberies over the previous nine months. Beginning on Nov. 22, 2021, a total of seven banks in Chicago, Skokie, Waukegan and now Evanston have been robbed, all by knifepoint, four of which are Huntington Banks within Jewel-Osco stores.

EPD Commander Ryan Glew told the RoundTable he is not aware of any special precautions being taken by the department or other area banks at this time, and said he could not share the amount of money that was taken.

The FBI is currently offering up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect. EPD requests anyone with information to contact its Detective Bureau at 847-866-5040, FBI Chicago at 312-421-6700, or Text-A-Tip at CRIMES (274637) with a message beginning with EPDTIP.
