Submitted by Evanston/Skokie School District 65
Marquise Weatherspoon, member of the Evanston/Skokie School District 65 Board of Education, submitted her resignation, effective Aug. 8.

Weatherspoon’s board service began in 2021. She served on the Curriculum & Policy Committee, the Park School Advisory Committee, and the Head Start Parent Planning Committee.
“On behalf of the school board, I would like to thank Marquise for her service on the District 65 board,” said Board President Sergio Hernandez Jr. “Marquise’s lived experience and commitment to community service will be truly missed.”
To fill the vacancy, the Board will seek applicants from across the District 65 community. In order to be eligible to serve, a school board member must be a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years of age, a registered voter, and a resident of the State of Illinois and Evanston/Skokie School District 65 for at least one year.
Applications are available online and at the Joseph E. Hill Education Center, located at 1500 McDaniel Ave. Application documents must be submitted by 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2.
The applicant selected will be announced at the Sept. 19 regular board meeting.

Application submission
Applications may be submitted online or via email to qureshia@district65.net, by mail or in person to the attention of Adeela Qureshi at 1500 McDaniel Ave, Evanston, Ill., 60201. Completed applications must be submitted no later than 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, to be considered.
Marquise received 5,647 votes, just 7 votes fewer than Donna Wang Su who won the seat, so I think her appointment was well justified. I am grateful for her service, sad to lose her important voice, and hopeful that her departure doesn’t stem from illness or other misfortune.
