More than 150 members and guests enjoyed the Aug. 14 annual Family Picnic and Celebration sponsored by members of American Legion Post 42 at their patio on the grounds of Canal Shores Golf Course. Volunteers got an early-morning start preparing food for the crowd.

There was a lot for everyone to enjoy at the American Legion Post Family Picnic and Celebration. Kids played mini-golf on a full-fledged adult course at the Canal Shores Golf Course, which the Post calls home.

And finally, the Mane in Heaven Miniature Therapy Horses held a special event for families in Highland Park this past weekend at the Heller Nature Center. The mini horses have visited Highland Park before to thank first responders. Hope and Poppy put on their special mini-sneakers and automatically spread joy and happiness. The event, games and refreshments was free and more than 50 families signed up.
