Seven-year-old Addie Resnick (right) and her four-year-old sister Annaliese take their little friends on a tour of the historic Fountain Square Centennial Fountain in the Merrick Rose Garden. The girls don’t care about this history, but the fountain spouted water (It worked!) in Fountain Square starting in 1912, when it replaced the original that dated back to the nation’s 1876 centennial. This new fountain was removed for restoration in 1946 and moved to the rose garden on Lake Street and Oak Avenue in 1951. (Photo by Richard Cahan)
