The City of Evanston will conduct two candidate forums next week, and 2022 isn’t even a municipal election year.
As part of the search for a new Second Ward City Council member, a candidate forum will be held both in-person at the Morton Civic Center and virtually via Zoom on Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. All nine hopefuls for the council vacancy will be interviewed by Mayor Daniel Biss, who will ultimately appoint a candidate pending a confirmation vote by a majority of sitting council members.
The nine candidates are Keith Banks, Darlene Cannon, Matthew Farrauto, Patricia Gregory, Kristian Harris, Blanca Lule, Mindy Scott, Anya Tanyavutti and Jesus Vega.
Those with questions for the candidates can submit them in advance.
Also next week, Evanston residents can get to know the three candidates selected as finalists to be Evanston’s next chief of police. The three hopefuls are: Migdala Bulnes, the Chicago Police Department’s Deputy Chief of Recruitment and Retention; Joshua Hunt, Chief of the Investigations Bureau in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office; and Schenita Stewart, Deputy Chief of the East Dundee Police Department.
The city is conducting a virtual candidate forum via Zoom at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8. Community members are also invited to submit questions for those candidates in advance online.
Both events will be live-streamed, recorded and replayed on City Channel 16 and on YouTube.
