On Tuesday, Sept. 20, at approximately 4 p.m., Evanston firefighters responded to 1021 Greenwood St. for the report of a residential house fire.
Upon the arrival of first-responding companies, contractors working there reported that flames were visible in a void space near the roof of a three-story residential structure.
The first-arriving crews pulled two hose lines and immediately opened the ceiling. Due to rapidly changing fire conditions, the response was escalated to a second alarm to control the blaze.
Fire companies conducted a well-coordinated, aggressive interior fire attack and brought the fire under control within 45 minutes of arriving on the scene. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The Evanston Fire Department utilized the MABAS BOX card system, bringing in several departments from neighboring communities to assist with the fire. The contractors were able to self-extricate prior to the arrival of fire companies. There were no reported civilian or firefighter injuries.
Strong work by the Evanston Fire Department! Houses like this can rapidly become fully involved. A quick response time and an aggressive, interior attack saved this home.
