Submitted by the Evanston Fire Department
From 7 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, until Friday morning, Oct. 28, the Illinois Water Rescue Task Force 1 will conduct a deployment training exercise along the Evanston lakeshore.
Water-based operations are extremely dangerous and technical, and they greatly benefit from rescue personnel maintaining their skills through consistent training. The drills will focus on the location and rescue of stranded boaters or swimmers and emergency boat operations. These types of training opportunities allow regional water rescue personnel to pool highly trained and equipped personnel together to accomplish water rescue missions faster and more efficiently.
During these drills, rescue mannequins may be placed on various Evanston beaches to aid in the rescuers’ skill development. The mannequins are signed appropriately as training aids. The rescue team will also practice critical skills needed during extended deployments, such as shelter and boat deployment.
During this training event, area residents may notice a high level of Fire and Rescue activity and vehicles in the area of Church Street and the lakefront.
