The Fisk University Choir will perform on Saturday, November 19 at 7:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 516 Church St., in partnership with the Sherman United Methodist Church.
Founded in 1922, Sherman United Methodist Church is the only historically African American United Methodist Church on the North Shore. Additionally, Sherman is the only church in Evanston named after one of its co-founders, an African American woman Mrs. Lula B. Sherman. In addition to celebrating its 100th Anniversary, Sherman is celebrating the return of the Fisk Choir after a two year absence because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Led by Music Director Dr. Christopher Duke, the Fisk University Choir remains the oldest college choir (1879) in the state of Tennessee. This is the 14th year that Sherman has hosted the Fisk Choir during its annual fall tour. The concert was originally scheduled on Friday, October 16th but had to be rescheduled to Saturday November 19th.
