Submitted by City of Evanston
Light the Night, a brand-new event hosted by the City of Evanston, will take place on the evening of Saturday, January 21. Evanston Parks and Recreation will publish a map with the locations of 9 different light installations in pubic spaces throughout the city. The event will begin at sundown at the Noyes Cultural Art Center where hot chocolate will be passed out along with the map.
Artists and community members are asked to submit a proposal for a solar-powered, artistic light installation in an Evanston Park (parks will be assigned to artists after the selection process is complete). Battery operation is allowed. A panel will evaluate the proposals and select nine to be realized. The proposal submission form will close at 12 noon on Friday, Dec. 9 and the notification for the selected proposals will be sent out by Friday, Dec. 16.
Each selected artist will be given $150 for supplies, which will be sent by check. You will need to become a registered city vendor in order to receive the payment, further instructions for how to do so will be sent upon selection of the proposals. Only one check will be issued per proposal selected.
*You do NOT need to be a professional artist to apply! Families, groups of friends, anyone who is a member of the Evanston Community is encouraged to submit a proposal.
