Five days before Christmas and the tree lot is . . . almost empty. Ryan Fritz, whose family owns Windy City Garden Center, says he has about 100 trees to sell – out of 1,300 first delivered around Thanksgiving. He’ll keep open at 2000 Green Bay Road until Saturday afternoon. “I’m bargaining because I have more big trees than normal, but I’m pretty firm with the smaller tree prices,” Fritz said. Prices are higher this year mostly due to freight charges. Tall trees sell for up to $450. Regulars go for about $200. (Photo by Richard Cahan)
