From the Evanston Fire Department
At around 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27, Evanston firefighters responded to reports of a house fire in a single-family residence at 814 Grey Ave.
First-arriving companies arrived within minutes, encountering billowing black smoke and heavy fire conditions from the rear of the structure. The response was immediately upgraded due to advanced fire conditions, bringing in additional resources to assist with fire investigation and city coverage.
Due to a quick and aggressive interior attack, the fire was extinguished within less than 20 minutes. Extensive smoke and water damage resulted in the displacement of all residents within the building. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Two occupants were able to self-evacuate prior to the arrival of fire companies, with one patient transported by ambulance in stable condition to a local area hospital. No firefighter injuries were reported.
