There were balloons, a birthday cake, special guests and a room full of collective experiences that were true cause for celebration: The Mather, an Evanston Life Plan Community for those 62 and older, threw a party on Wednesday, March 8, to honor residents born before 1929, including 11 who are or soon will be centenarians.

Spearheaded by the community’s hospitality committee as a way for residents to learn a bit more about each other and celebrate longevity, the event included a program with bios on all the honorees, a photo slideshow and music from memorable eras.
Those who’ve hit the 100-year mark received a commemorative “front page” of news from the day they were born.
The Mather’s parent organization, Mather, is dedicated to creating Ways to Age Well and the community itself has been focusing on the theme of “Positive Aging” this year through presentations and special programs.
