Submitted by the Evanston Fire Department
On Tuesday, at approximately 4:30 a.m., the Evanston Fire Department responded to reports of heavy smoke filling an apartment at 208 Custer Ave.

First-responding companies encountered heavy smoke and fire conditions from a second-floor apartment, quickly upgraded the response to a working fire, and provided additional support to assist with scene management and emergency calls in Evanston.
Due to an aggressive interior attack with one line, the fire was extinguished in less than 15 minutes and successfully contained to the unit of origin. Smoke and water damage resulted in the displacement of two residents within the building. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
All residents were able to evacuate the fire building without incident. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. The American Red Cross was called to the scene and provided emergency and wrap-around services for the two displaced residents.
