To the tune of O Christmas Tree, condo residents sing “O dear oak tree, our dear oak tree, how barren are your branches” during the tree’s last days. Residents at 1730 Hinman Ave. think the majestic oak dates back to the Revolutionary War era. It started showing its age last year when it didn’t fully bloom. The condo board voted to have the tree – site of anniversaries and home to many birds – cut down. “We had to do something,” said board president Michael Berman. Arborists are expected to take the tree any day. What kind of tree will be planted in its spot? “The only thing we know is that it will be much smaller,” said one resident. “It will take decades.” (Photo by Richard Cahan)
