Howard S. Ellegant, 81, of Evanston, died Thursday, March 16, 2023.

He was the beloved husband of Carol Ellegant (nee Mendelson), the loving father of David Ellegant and Debra Chesnin (Alex Tartakovsky), the proud grandfather of Leah Evelyn Tartakovsky and the devoted son of the late Sol and Eileen Ellegant.
From 1962 to 1964, Howard was in the Peace Corps and served in Medellin, Colombia, designing and building rural schools with community members. He spent 16 years with the Army Corps of Engineers in roles ranging from architect to Value Engineering Officer.
He was a member of the Society of American Value Engineers (SAVE) College of Fellows, past chair of the SAVE Certification Board, former VP and president of the Chicago Metropolitan Chapter of SAVE and recipient of its Distinguished Service Award.
Service was at 10 a.m. Monday, March 20, at the Jewish Reconstructionist Congregation, 303 Dodge Ave., Evanston, with interment at Westlawn Cemetery in Norridge.
