Eight-year-old Casey Hallett approaches Iris the donkey after the burro led a Palm Sunday procession around Evanston’s Raymond Park. Jesus rode a donkey into Jerusalem to celebrate Passover, according to the New Testament. “This helps us understand the story,” said Rev. Michael Woolf, senior minister at Lake Street Church of Evanston, who organized the event. “I saw how stubborn the donkey was.” Actually, Iris did well. “She didn’t stop once,” said Lana Batek, Iris’ trainer, who is holding the rope. More than 100 parishioners from the Lake Street, First Congregational, First Presbyterian and Immanuel Lutheran churches joined for the second annual event. (Photo by Richard Cahan)
