The North Shore Harmonizers announce the appointment of Paul Langford
as chorus director. He succeeds Alice Lane, who retired last November after leading
the chorus for 31 years.
In announcing Langford’s appointment, Harmonizers President Helen Gagel said,
“We are thrilled to have found an outstanding musician to succeed Alice Lane, under
whose direction we broadened our repertoire and improved our musicianship. We
expect that growth to continue under Paul’s leadership. He is a multi-talented artist,
and an outstanding teacher who brings out the best in every singer.”
According to Langford, “I’m honored and grateful to be taking the directorship of this fine choir, whose history dates back some 75 years! This is a group of strong, smart, talented and capable women who are eager to GO! Exciting days are ahead for the Harmonizers.”

A Chicago singer, composer, arranger, orchestrator, conductor and keyboard player, Langford has been creating a more musical world for over 30 years. His published works, arrangements and orchestrations (Hal Leonard, Shawnee Press, Oxford University Press, Alfred Music) have been performed by symphonies all over the U.S. and Canada, by Voices of Liberty (Epcot Center), multiple Disney theme parks and by choirs all over the world.
Born and raised in Hong Kong, Langford has been a vocal and piano guest artist in studio and live performance with headline and Grammy Award-winning artists David Foster, Yolanda Adams, Kenny Rogers, Heather Headley, Abraham Laboriel, Michael Bublé, Josh Groban and Celine Dion, and he’s been honored to perform for Presidents Bill Clinton, George Bush and First Lady Michelle Obama.
In the Chicago area, Langford works as a conductor with the Sounds Good Choir and Chicago a cappella, and as owner and creative director of Paul Langford Studios, a state-of the-art recording facility. He produces, engineers, composes and plays for a variety of leading artists, corporate clients and television/film projects. On the road, he is an in-demand music educator, guest conductor, respected band and vocal ensemble leader and invited singer with orchestras and a cappella groups across America and around the globe. The North Shore Harmonizers chorus was founded in 1952 as a traditional women’s
barbershop chorus. Now the chorus performs four-part a cappella harmony in a
variety of styles. Based in Wilmette, the Harmonizers draw members from across Chicagoland and the northern suburbs. As a community chorus, the Harmonizers
share their joy of singing at community events, senior residences and other venues.
