Third-graders from Dewey Elementary School raise homemade banners asking drivers on Ridge Avenue to honk during the Unite Against Racism rally sponsored by the YWCA Evanston/North Shore. “It’s important to teach anti-racism,” said their teacher Beatriz Difrisco. Children and adults lined Ridge from Clark south to Howard streets as people from more than 25 religious institutions, public and private schools, foundations and clubs as well as city agencies took part. Is Difrisco hopeful about this generation and the future? “Always,” she said. “I wouldn’t be a teacher if I didn’t have hope.” (Photo by Richard Cahan)
