Pet portraits are Samantha Kurit’s specialty. She showed her work and received six commissions Sunday at the first of the Maker’s Markets. Kurit, a Northwestern graduate student in speech therapy, brought her hound Kirby. “This is my side job,” she said. Portraits start at $75 for watercolors and $100 for acrylics. Some 50 vendors showed their work at the market, the first of three this year on the fifth floor of the 1800 Maple Ave. garage. “This gives them a low-barrier, low-risk opportunity to make new collectors and fans,” said Lisa Degliantoni, co-director of Evanston Made, sponsor of the event. Vendors pay between $25 and $150 for space. (Photo by Richard Cahan)
