A recent report from Northwestern University found that U.S. newspapers are disappearing at an average rate of more than two per week. Today, more than 67 million Americans live in news deserts – with very limited access to local news – or in areas at risk of becoming a news desert.
Research has shown that without a credible local news source:
- Voter participation declines
- Corruption increases in both government and business
- Taxes increase for local residents
Access to dependable local news provides the foundation for democracy. The RoundTable has served Evanston for 25 years as an award-winning source of local news. As a nonprofit, we depend on reader support. And we need your help to reach our spring fundraising goal.
