A shooting in the 1800 block of Lake Street on Sunday, May 21, sent one person to the hospital for a gunshot wound, said Evanston Police Department Commander Ryan Glew.

Glew described the injury as “not life-threatening.”

Though the shooting took place around the corner from Evanston Township High School, Glew said no high school students were involved in the incident. Sunday morning was the ETHS graduation.

An argument took place among a number of people about 5:30 p.m. and escalated to gunfire, Glew said.

The shooter fled and hasn’t been identified, he said, and the matter is an ongoing investigation.

  1. Let’s add that there is a kids park 2 blocks east of where this happened where Cherry pre-school has their kids play at 5 days a week and there are over 1K kids playing daily at this park.
