Submitted by the Evanston Police Department
On Tuesday, Sept. 12, at approximately 3:01 p.m., the Evanston Public Library received an email stating that a bomb had been placed in the library. The email also mentioned that bombs had been placed in other area libraries.

Evanston Public Library staff promptly contacted the Evanston Police Department, who responded to both the Main Library Branch location in the 1700 block of Orrington Avenue and the Robert Crown Branch Library in the 1800 block of Main Street.
Out of precaution, both library locations were evacuated. The Robert Crown Community Center was also evacuated. A search was conducted at both library locations and the Robert Crown Community Center by the Evanston Police Department with the assistance of a METRA Police Department K-9 unit. No evidence of a bomb was found. Police units cleared both locations at approximately 7:02 p.m. There is no threat to the public at this time.
The Evanston Police Department is investigating the source of the email. If you believe you have information about this investigation, please contact the Evanston Police Detective Bureau at 847-866-5040 or Text-A-Tip to CRIMES (274637) and then start your message with EPDTIP.
