Evanston once again demonstrates that it is on a path to regulate even the slightest prerogative that homeowners may have regarding their property. Is there any data which shows that property owners have been tearing down trees at a rate which justifies government intervention? I bet not; we are just seeing the effect of having a City Council composed of representatives who want to be “responsive” to the sensibilities of every citizen, no matter how far they may be from addressing the real needs of our small city. If the council doesn’t rescind this ordinance, I hope it is challenged legally as an unconstitutional governmental intrusion on private property rights.

We’ll said Mr Freed. This is a solution in search of a problem. Why regulate when there is no need. There are a host of city needs that require council’s attention that are not on their current agenda. Dennis Meritt
Hear, hear Martin… Thank you for this!
It’s sad our City Council spends so much time on obtuse regulations and so little time on endeavoring saving the taxpayers and residents money on civic projects (like the WAYYYY over budget Crown complex and the $1000-sq/ft Animal Shelter). Wait till we get the bill for the true cost of the 5th Ward School.
