The beautiful, leisurely sunny afternoon of Aug. 25 was a perfect way to celebrate Armenian food, music, dance and culture.

For more than 30 years, the Taste of Armenia Street Fair has been a favorite end-of-summer event, drawing people of all ethnic backgrounds from Evanston and Chicago. The fair, which has grown in size and participation, stretches along Clark Street from Benson Avenue to Sherman Avenue. It is a church community affair with the participation of parish members, committee members, volunteers and donors.

Attendees feasted on charcoal-grilled kebobs and homemade specialties – healthy salads, rice pilaf, hommus, baba ghanoush, sarma rolls with freshly picked grape leaves and delicious desserts – paklava, bird’s nest and khadif – topped off with a cup of Armenian coffee.

The cultural offerings included ancient and modern aspects of the Armenian culture, and an open-air market featured products from Armenia.
