“What time is it?” Sister Angela Hyman of Fresh Anointing Worship Center (F.A.W.C.) asked more than 100 guests assembled for the church’s annual Community Tea Party. A chorus of voices responded, “It’s tea time!”

It was also a time for food, fellowship and fun. The theme for the event was “Community,” and what it means to those of us who call Evanston home. Evanston Police Officers Tanya Jenkins and Adam Howard spoke about how organizations like Officer and Gentlemen Academy and Citizens Police Academy bring community members together to build a better future for our youth.

Minister Sherry Walker, reflecting on what comes to mind when she thinks about community, said, “Togetherness. There’s power in a community when we unite together. Remember that God has given us one another.”

Formal tea attire merits a dashing headpiece, and a traditional Hat Walk provided the perfect opportunity for church members and guests to display an array of eye-catching hats at an event that truly honored community.
