Two upcoming theatrical performances celebrate Black History Month.

A staged reading of “The Whipping Man” by Matthew Lopez will take place at 3 p.m. on Feb. 10 at the Noyes Cultural Arts Center, 927 Noyes St.

The Center for the Church and the Black Experience at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, Northwestern University, and Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre will host the reading of this emotionally potent play. A discussion about the play’s themes will follow.

This event is free and open to the public. Light snacks and beverages will be served.

Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre will present “All Hail The Queen,” featuring the singer Qiana McNary and The McNary Experience Band at 3 p.m. on Feb. 24 at the theater in the Noyes Cultural Arts Center. This concert is a tribute to Aretha Franklin, the Queen
of Soul.
