Support Our Journalism

Since 1998, the Evanston RoundTable kept our vibrant community informed through its award-winning journalism. On June 1, this news site was transferred to Evanston RoundTable Media NFP, a newly formed not-for-profit-corporation. Many people who have worked as editors and journalists for the Evanston RoundTable for years will continue on. We are grateful to the many community leaders and journalists who have joined our efforts in making this transition.

Our mission is to enhance the reporting of the RoundTable and to continue to inform the community about local government, schools, civic and artistic activities, and important issues facing Evanston. Our goals include fostering civic engagement and empowering people to address complex issues facing our community, promoting a better understanding and appreciation of people of all races/ethnicities and income levels, and serving our diverse community.

In the United States, 25% of newspapers have ceased operation, and 2,000 community newspapers have closed in the past 15 years. In November we faced tough financial challenges but refused to be one of these statistics and pivoted our business model. Putting operation of our print edition on hold, we concentrated on bolstering our online format. We continue to provide important news at no charge, enforcing our belief that a strong democracy is based on a free press that provides strong journalism, enabling citizens to make informed decisions.

With your help, we can continue to provide high-quality journalism that is accessible to everyone in Evanston. We have exciting plans for the future and hope to resume the print edition if we receive necessary support. Note:  On June 15, 2020, Evanston RoundTable Media NFP filed an application for Section 501(c)(3) tax exempt status with the Internal Revenue Service. The IRS says that donations made while an application is pending qualify as tax deductible for federal income tax purposes if the application is approved. The IRS says if the application is disallowed, contributions would not qualify.
