    Dr. Steven McGregor Demorest was born Aug. 24, 1959, in Detroit, Mich., and died Sept. 22 in Evanston after a 20-month battle with a form of lung cancer that – much like him – was very rare. True to his wishes, he passed peacefully at home with his family and loyal dog by his side.

  • John J. (Jim) Carver, born Sep. 29, 1929 was a lifelong Evanstonian who frequently told his family that he'd probably always live in Evanston because he didn't want his obituary to read "formerly of Evanston." He died on Aug. 25 of natural causes. He was 89.
