Three members of the Evanston Township High School Wildkit Ensemble were recently recognized for their achievements in the arts by the Kiwanis Club of Evanston. Sylvi Imrem, Frances Petersen, and Brianna Silas each received the Ted Van Zelst Award.

The Wildkit Ensemble is a class that brings students from general and special education together to create art and music. Since joining the course, Sylvi stated she is moved by the collaboration; Frances has made new friends and continues to advocate for students with special needs; and Brianna has “found her voice” and now helps others do the same.

The Kiwanis Club has recognized hundreds of students in the areas of arts, athletics, and community service. The Ted Van Zelst Award was named for a prominent Evanston businessman, entrepreneur and humanitarian. Each student received a certificate of achievement, a book on leadership and a gift card.
