  • Juniors Ricardo Salinas and Valery Jean-Jacques both captured individual championships Saturday and led the Evanston wrestling team to a 5th place finish in the team standings at the Central Suburban League tournament held at Maine East High School.
  • Zev Grodzin didn’t set out to make history this season for the Evanston bowling team. But the Wildkit senior did just that Saturday at the Immaculate Conception Sectional tournament in Glendale Heights.

  • Next Tuesday’s game versus Loyola Academy will have sectional tournament seeding implications. Next Thursday’s game at Glenbrook South could determine the conference championship.

  • It wouldn’t be entirely accurate to say that the shooters from Evanston and New Trier’s basketball teams heated up in the second half of the rivalry showdown at Gates Gymnasium Friday night. More like warmed up than heated up, after the Wildkits led only 16-13 at halftime before pulling away for a 49-43 victory in front of a near capacity crowd

  • Brittanny Johnson couldn’t refrain from describing Friday’s 60-51 victory at New Trier as an “ugly” win. But the 3-point shooting of newly-eligible senior Tyler Mayne proved to be a thing of beauty for fans of the Evanston girls basketball team.

  • The Best Fishing: BWCA, Boundary Waters Canoe Area (Be Ware of Chilean Assault)
The area is under assault from a Chilean mining company that wants to begin sulfide-ore mining for copper in the Superior National Forest at the edge of the Boundary Waters, threatening to pollute the eco-system with heavy metals like arsenic and lead that are by-products of this type of mining.
  • The Zee Bees --- already 7-time losers this season --- shot a blistering 73 percent from the field and gunned down previously undefeated Evanston by a 90-71 margin, snapping the Wildkits’ 18-game winning string.
  • Jayla Turchin and Ambrea Gentle didn’t grab EVERY rebound Monday at the 30th annual Coach Kipp Hoopsfest shootout event at Willowbrook High School. It probably just seemed that way to members of the Mother McAuley basketball team.Turchin and Gentle combined for 32 points and 35 rebounds as Evanston overpowered the Mighty Macs for a 59-49 victory and improved to 17-2 on the season.

  • Zev Grodzin and Aiden Cella both claimed individual sectional qualifying spots while leading the Evanston boys bowling team to a 7th place team finish on Saturday at the Glenbrook North Regional tournament.
  • Gibson, Wildkits Rally Past Hillcrest for Shootout Win
Jaylin Gibson stashed in a game-high 22 points, and added 8 rebounds and 3 steals as the Wildkits rallied from a 7-point deficit in the fourth quarter for a 74-69 triumph over south suburban power Hillcrest.
  • The Evanston senior point guard became only the second female player in school history to reach the 1,000-point plateau in her career Friday night, adding a dash of drama to an otherwise easy 74-31 victory over Glenbrook North for the Wildkit girls.
  • Finally showing a sense of urgency after trailing most of the Central Suburban League South division contest, the Wildkits held GBN to just 1 field goal in the last 10 minutes of a 57-44 victory.
  • Not many of the entrants competing at the New Trier Winter Dive Classic invitational Saturday tried as many dives with the degree of difficulty that tested Evanston’s Aryeh Lesch. Lesch’s diving list is still evolving for the 2019-20 season, and so is the ETHS sophomore, who is only in his second season in that specialty.

  • Life in the fast lane isn’t always easy. Up against a field that included 5 of the top 10-ranked teams in the state of Illinois, Evanston’s swimmers couldn’t aim too high during Saturday’s 55th annual Evanston Invitational meet.

  • Fourth Quarter Surge Helps Wildkits Avoid Upset

Evanton’s basketball team didn’t show Mather much respect Saturday night at Beardsley Gymnasium. And a Wildkit team that hasn’t needed to absorb a loss to learn valuable lessons so far this year almost learned the hard way.
