DetailsEve J. Alfillé, artist and owner of Eve J. Alfillé Gallery and Studio announces the opening of her new Feathers series on Saturday, May 4th from 1 to 7 p.m. Please join us for Champagne, snacks and frivolity as we introduce this lighthearted collection of earrings, necklaces and rings. Inspired by their color, lightness and structure Eve experiments with apatite, blue topaz, emerald and tanzanite mimicking the plumage of our feathered friends. Drops flutter with mandarin garnets, carnelians and spinels. Feather shapes sparkle with rubies and garnets. Necklaces strut with opals, turquoise, citrine and sapphires. The movement is palpable with ruffles of tourmaline and amethyst. This graceful collection features rings with Mexican opals and pins showcasing Yowah opals. Eve remembers a riddle her father presented to her at a young age. “Which is heavier, a pound of iron or a pound of feathers?” Perplexed she replied. “A pound of iron, of course!” A moment of silence. My father wagging his head. "No. They each weigh the same, a pound." I knew I disappointed him, but inside, I felt rebellion. Could I also be right? There was something about the image of all these feathers lightly, delicately swirling to the ground that delighted me.” Eve shares her thoughts on this series as a metaphor for human interaction. “Now, these many years later, I see human discourse re- enacting the riddle. On one hand, the words that are hurled with heat, and clang to the ground, words as weapons. On the other hand, words that are considered, words meant to float and be slowly absorbed, words as instruments of mutual discourse. Both reach their target, but feathers do not maim”, she states. “I do love metal, its uncompromising hardness, its weight, I work through it every day, for peaceful purposes,” she reflects. Eve has been designing one of a kind jewelry pieces for close to 40 years. It’s ironic when she speaks of comparing iron to feathers because she is working with gold, silver, diamonds, rubies, sapphires, etc. on a daily basis. These elements have weight but she has the amazing ability to lighten them in her designs. She floats sunstones in diamonds and hovers sapphires in the air! Diamonds swim in the river and emeralds hang off trees. This event features a raffle for two beautiful original necklaces from Eve’s new Feathers series. We hope you will join us to view this stunning collection and celebrate an artist of exceptional talent. About Eve J. Alfillé Gallery & Studio French-born, artist, archeologist and gem expert, Eve J.
