The Cornell University Chorus is pleased to announce their 2014 Tour of the Midwest. Hailing from  Ithaca, New York, the Chorus will begin their tour on Friday March 28, making stops in Buffalo,  Cincinnati, St. Louis, Bloomington, Chicago, Ann Arbor, and Akron. On April 3, 2014, the Chorus  will be performing at St. Paul&rsquo s Lutheran Church in Evanston, IL. Tickets for the concert are $20 for  adults, $15 for students, and may be purchased at the Cornell Chorus website, cuchorus.com, under  concerts and events.
Founded in 1921, the Cornell University Chorus is Cornell's premier treble voice ensemble.
The ensemble has gained a reputation as one of the nation's outstanding women's choirs. Comprised of  fifty women, the Chorus performs a repertoire spanning eight centuries and ten languages, including  masses, motets, spirituals, folk, and a variety of other classical and contemporary pieces.
In 2003, the Cornell University Chorus launched a commissioning project titled "No Whining,  No Flowers." The project expands the contemporary repertoire for women's choirs by commissioning  pieces from female composers who use the poetry and proses of female authors as lyrics. The music  and the words are intended to explore topics that differ from the traditional themes of women&rsquo s  repertoire, such as the lamentation of lost love, subservience to a male counterpart, or simple pastoral  descriptions; it is from these themes that the idea of &ldquo No Whining, No Flowers&rdquo was born. The mostrecent addition to the project is composer Flannery Cunningham&rsquo s piece, &ldquo Onion Days. &rdquo In the past several years, the Chorus has had many successful tours to Oklahoma and Texas,  the Northeast, the Southeastern United States, California and Canada. The Chorus also regularly travels
to other universities for competitions and festivals, including performances at Harvard for the Centennial  Celebration of the Radcliffe Choral Society. In addition, they have also participated in joint concerts  with the Toronto Women's Chorus, the Penn State Glee Club, and the Wellesley Chorus. International  tours include Taiwan, Italy, Venezuela, and China.
The Chorus boasts extensive experience in professional settings. They have worked under the  direction of Nadia Boulanger, Eugene Ormandy, Erich Leinsdorf, Michael Tilson Thomas, Julius Rudel,  and Karel Husa, and have performed on the stages of Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Kennedy
Center, the Philadelphia Academy of Music, and the Saratoga Performing Arts Center. The Chorus has  also been featured on two nationwide broadcasts: a special half hour on CBS radio, and an appearance  on PBS's MacNeil/Lehrer News Hour as part of an artistic feature on former director Susan Davenny
Wyner. The Chorus has had the privilege collaborating with renowned world musician Samite of  Uganda. They participated in a production of Richard Einhorn's Voices of Light with Anonymous 4 and  performed several major works with the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra. They have also performed
with the Cornell Symphony Orchestra. In addition, the Chorus periodically works in conjunction with  the allmale  Cornell University Glee Club in the performance of major works, including Verdi's  Requiem, Bernstein's Mass, Brahms's Requiem, and Bach&rsquo s Mass in B Minor.
