You start cooking in the kitchen after checking to make sure Andy and Adam are playing nicely in the next room. Suddenly, your little one Andy is running to you with teary eyes. When you asks him what happens, Andy says that his older brother Adam pushed him. You find Adam&rsquo s concerned look in the next room. He admits that he pushed Andy, but begins to cry when you put him in a time-out chair. You overhear from him, &ldquo I hate Andy. It&rsquo s not fair.&rdquo

As a parent, you may face this kind of situation on a regular basis. You know that sibling rivalry is a natural thing, yet, it is impossible not to intervene with constant fighting, put-downs, and arguing.   Even worse, you&rsquo re not even sure how to effectively intervene anymore.   How can you promote peace in your house?   What should you do help your children get along and eventually develop a close bond?

Sibling rivalry can be as stressful and challenging for parents as it is for children. It is important for parents to understand the nature of sibling rivalry and be proactive in developing skills that promote healthy sibling relationships. Come learn some relationship-based approaches to managing these struggles.

Learn to manage sibling rivalry in a way that helps maintain and promote strong sibling relationships:

  • Understand reasons for sibling rivalry
  • Learn when and how to intervene
  • Build skills to reduce fighting and arguing among siblings
  • Promote healthy sibling relationships.
