An Evanston Minute: September swim
Friends (from left) Roberta Rubin, 85; Dorothy Harza, 94; and JoAnn Wilkin, 96, swim in the lake most days in the late summer. They start in June and swim until early November, but “September is the best month,” said Harza, because the lake is warm. Lake swimming is an almost spiritual experience, they all say. They live at The Mather senior residence in Evanston. Photographer Richard Cahan caught up with them one morning at the Dempster Street sailing beach.
