Celebrating centenarians and aging well at The Mather

Train for the Ricky Byrdsong 5K Race Against Hate with the Evanston Running Club
The Evanston Running Club, in collaboration with the Evanston/North Shore YWCA, is pleased to offer a free “Couch to 5K” training program beginning Sunday, March 26. This is a 12-week program for walkers, run-walkers, and runners to prepare for the YWCA’s Ricky Byrdsong Memorial Race Against Hate on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 18.
Co-founder of Girls Play Sports named one of 20 trailblazing women by M&M’s
M&M’S is celebrating one of the founders of Girls Play Sports, Liz Maday of Evanston, for her impactful work to empower women and flip the status quo. She will receive a $10k grant to further fund her mission with Girls Play Sports as one of 20 national winners of the M&M’S Flipping The Status Quo program. More than 1,000 consumers throughout the country submitted nominations for the barrier-breaking women in their lives who are flipping the status quo in their everyday lives and deserve to be celebrated and rewarded for their amazing work.
Downtown Evanston food drive supports two local food pantries during March
Downtown Evanston has organized a food drive to support two Evanston food pantries. After learning that two of Evanston’s local food pantries are running low on supplies, Downtown Evanston has reached out to businesses which immediately agreed to having bins to collect items. Throughout the month of March, businesses downtown will collect canned goods, snack items, and other non-perishable items. All donations will go to the food pantries at 2121 Dewey and Hilda’s Place located at 1458 Chicago Avenue.
