The Evanston Running Club, in collaboration with the Evanston/North Shore YWCA, is pleased to offer a free “Couch to 5K” training program beginning Sunday, March 26. This is a 12-week program for walkers, run-walkers, and runners to prepare for the YWCA’s Ricky Byrdsong Memorial Race Against Hate on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 18.

Downtown Evanston food drive supports two local food pantries during March
Downtown Evanston has organized a food drive to support two Evanston food pantries. After learning that two of Evanston’s local food pantries are running low on supplies, Downtown Evanston has reached out to businesses which immediately agreed to having bins to collect items. Throughout the month of March, businesses downtown will collect canned goods, snack items, and other non-perishable items. All donations will go to the food pantries at 2121 Dewey and Hilda’s Place located at 1458 Chicago Avenue.
YMCA will host blood drive on March 16
McGaw YMCA is hosting a blood drive on Thursday, March 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Chinnock Lounge. A typical donation takes less than one hour. Interested donors can visit the American Red Cross website to schedule an appointment.
Ted & Co. TheaterWorks presents ‘We Own This Now’ on March 17 and 18
What if the land you love was stolen?Ted & Company TheaterWorks presents We Own This Now, a play that looks at love of land, loss of land, and what it means to “own” something, by Alison Casella Brookins, starring Ted Swartz and Michelle Milne. Co-sponsored by Reba Place Church, Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary and Unitarian Church of Evanston, the performance will be on March 17 at 7 p.m. and March 18 at 3 p.m. at Reba Place Church, 620 Madison St.
Frances Willard House is open for tours
The Frances Willard House Museum will reopen for tours in March, just in time for Women’s History Month! The first round of March tours will be held at 1p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Water intake replacement project set to begin in mid-March
The City of Evanston will soon begin a $47.2 million construction project to replace the oldest water intake at the Evanston Water Utility, helping to provide high-quality, safe and reliable drinking water to nearly 500,000 people in Evanston and surrounding communities.
Evanston History Center presents its spring lecture series
The Evanston History Center’s Under the Buffalo Lecture Series provides programming for a broad audience interested in history, art, and culture. Speakers come from a wide variety of backgrounds and areas of expertise. Past topics have included green architecture, the underground railroad in Illinois, and industrial design. Lectures are presented six times a year (September-November and January-March). Admission is $10 per person; free for members of the Evanston History Center.
