Pop Up Photo Exhibit and Panel Discussion. Saturday, Oct. 22, 12-3 p.m., at the Shop Evanston Made Pop Up, 832 Dempster, Evanston, IL, 60202.

Steve Adams and Ben Blount collaborated to create a photo-based exhibit “​​​​Another Evanston: Documenting the 2018 E-Fam Remembrance Picnic” . The multimedia exhibit entailed photographic portraits and audio interviews with the attendees, all black, and several having lived in Evanston, IL, for generations. Piped into the room with be the playlist from the picnic and audio interviews of the subjects in the photos.

Join us for the project unveiling and Artist Talk Saturday, Oct. 22, 12-3 p.m., at the Shop Evanston Made Pop Up, 832 Dempster, Evanston, IL, 60202.

Adams and Blount are bringing this project to exhibit, with new images and a remix of the audio recordings. This body of work celebrates the Black Families who have lived in Evanston for generations, and raises visibility and representation for black artists living and working in Evanston.

During the opening reception, Evanston Made’s Board President, Denise Barreto, will lead a brief discussion (1:30-2:30p) on visibility for marginalized artists, the role art can play to build agency for Evanston’s Black Artists and community members.

We’ll hear from community leaders on what their institutions are doing to support Black Artists. Speakers will include; Dino Robinson, Shorefront Legacy Director, Janet Dees, Steven and Lisa Munster Tananbaum, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at The Block Museum of Art, Northwestern University, and Karli Butler, Director of Community Leadership at Evanston Community Foundation.
