Artists in Trees
August 20th, 2022 @ 12:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Free
A casual community event for creatives of all ages and levels.
Join us on the lakeshore to practice/rehearse, draft, edit, sketch, experiment, test out performance techniques you’ve been curious about, or just stop by for some of the free shows, crafts, creative workshops, and open mics we have programmed throughout the day!
This civic project was born summer of 2021, when a R.U. painter staged a performance art piece in Butler Field, Chicago. As opposed to exhibiting completed works, independent artists of various disciplines displayed their creative working processes in view of the public.
It was a joy: pedestrians were amazed at the sight of artists practicing their craft in (and amongst) the trees, and many enjoyed the spontaneous opportunity to create using lo-fi materials like sidewalk chalk and markers.
This summer, we are re-staging Artists In Trees at Dawes park (and the surrounding lakeshore parks) in Evanston.
The more the merrier- bring a friend, a picnic, a hammock, or something to work on!
A note: Out of respect for other performers, the general public, and city noise ordinances; keep sound at “acoustic” levels, and book a performance slot if you anticipate needing access to power.
If you are coming to Artists in Trees to rehearse, practice, or just hang out, you don’t need to sign up for a time slot! Just show up.
If you wish to host a workshop or performance for the public, please fill out this google form so that we can advertise accordingly.
